South Africa’s government is currently accepting applications for its bursary program. For the 2024 academic year, students from all over the country can start submitting award applications. Students can apply for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas), which is offered to individuals enrolled in public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, via the official website. All students must first create a myNsfas account before they can submit a Nsfas application for the class of 2024. it is advisable for students to read below and know if they are eligible to apply or not.
NSFAS Application End Date 2024
Applications for the NSFAS are now being accepted for 2024. By September 28, 2023, your NSFAS grant application must be received. Currently, January 21 is the application deadline for 2024. Since late submissions won’t be allowed, be sure to submit your application before the deadline.
Who Qualify To Receive NSFAS Funding
To qualify for bursaries, applicants must adhere to four fundamental standards;
- every South African national
- All winners of SASSA grants are eligible for funding
- applicants whose annual household combined income does not exceed R350 000
- A disabled person: The total annual household income cannot exceed R600,000.
- students who started their studies before 2024 and whose household income is not higher than R122 000 annually

Applying for the NSFAS in 2024
logging into your myNsfas account
- Enter the information that Nsfas needs.
- Choose “Apply.”
- Click the next button once you have filled out all the relevant fields (parents’ information, mother’s information, guardian information, spouse information for married students, etc.).
- Once all sections and procedures have been completed, you must upload the relevant paperwork.
- Once you have uploaded all necessary documents, click “Next.”
- Click “submit” after making sure the data and documents you provided are accurate.
How Many Years Will You Be Funded By NSFAS
Based on the number of funds available each year, NSFAS will only provide support for a maximum of five years if you meet the criteria for eligibility under the means test. You will be responsible for paying for yourself until you graduate if you regularly change your program of study and it takes you longer than five years to finish your certificate.
Who Can Appeal NSFAS
- A student whose application for financial aid is rejected or the financial aid for a continuing student is withdrawn, may lodge an appeal with the NSFAS.
- The appeal decisions are subject to budget availability.
- Appeals will only be considered for students who have applied to NSFAS for Financial Aid.
Who Cannot Appeal NSFAS
Students are not permitted to appeal if they:
- Are registered for a qualification that NSFAS does not fund;
- They have reached N+2 (or N+3 in the case of students with disabilities).
- The student is a gap year student who NSFAS previously denied financial aid to because s/he did not meet the academic eligibility criteria.
- If the institution has not submitted its registration record to NSFAS or has submitted an incorrect registration record such enquiries should be directed to the institution.
