Financial Aid

The core business and mandate of the Directorate of Financial Aid is to manage and administer various student funding opportunities for deserving students according to sponsor-specific requirements. Our goal is to ensure that eligible students have access to these funds at all our campuses. We aim to allocate the funds through a transparent and equitable application and assessment process.

Each year, we assist almost 30 000 TUT students with more than R1.4 billion in financial assistance. If you’re not one of them, you should be doing whatever is necessary to get financial support.

Academic Merit Bursaries for New Entrant First-year Students

Newcomer students who enroll in a National Diploma or a B Tech degree at the university for the first time following Grade 12 are eligible for these subsidies.
These bursaries are only available to nationals of South Africa.
Non-subsidized course enrollment disqualifies students from receiving these bursaries.
Only students who sign up for all the modules of a particular course are eligible for the scholarship.
These bursaries are not available to students who have attended other universities or who have attended the university before and are currently undergraduate students.
The allocation is forfeited if a student cancels their registration in the year they receive the prize because allocations are issued annually.
The average percentage of each subject on the Grade 12 certificate, which will give an accumulated discount based on the topics passed on a specific level, is used to evaluate eligibility.
