About the Department

​The Department of Drama and Film is dedicated to an interdisciplinary belief that drama and film enrich each other. As such, we constantly fuse the creative, practical and analytical dynamics of drama, theatre, film and TV production in a collaborative environment, training the next generation of proficient storytellers. The Drama, Film and TV Production programmes have evolved into a formidable force on the South African performing arts scene.

Their programmes aim not only to prepare a skilled actor, director, teacher, administrator or writer but also to develop a sensitive, well-rounded artist, who understands, explores and interprets the total human form. We pride ourselves in our graduates who have set up their own production companies, are leading actors and actresses, exceptional directors representing the institution both locally and internationally.

NATIONAL DIPLOMA: DRAMA

FOR APPLICANTS WHO OBTAINED A SENIOR CERTIFICATE BEFORE 2008:

Admission requirement(s):
A Senior Certificate or a relevant qualification

Selection criteria:

A metric for academic merit, based on academic performance, is used to evaluate applicants. successful completion of an audition in which candidates must demonstrate that the selection committee considers their performance ability and creativity to be of an acceptable standard.

FOR APPLICANTS WHO OBTAINED A NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE IN OR AFTER 2008

Admission requirement(s):

a National Senior Certificate with an endorsement for a bachelor’s degree, certificate, or an equivalent qualification, and at least a level 4 in English (home language or first foreign language).

Selection criteria:
To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS)
of at least 19.
