About the Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP)

Launched at COP27, the FCLP is a global coalition of national governments committed to halting and reversing forest loss and land degradation by 2030. The partnership aligns with the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use and focuses on high-level political engagement, national ambition, measurable implementation and accountability. The FCLP Secretariat is hosted by UNOPS and supports collaborative policy action, member coordination and global visibility of forest-and-climate efforts.

Role Overview: Global Communications Specialist

This role sits within the FCLP Secretariat and reports to senior leadership. The specialist is responsible for shaping and delivering strategic communications internal and external to raise awareness of the partnership’s objectives, achievements and priorities. Key areas include narrative development, media engagement, digital platforms, stakeholder alignment and event communications tied to high-profile climate forums.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the FCLP communications and engagement strategy, ensuring coherence with partners and evolving global context.
  • Craft and refine the overarching narrative of the FCLP, positioning it as a global forest-climate leader.
  • Coordinate internal communications among members, Secretariat and stakeholders (newsletters, updates, portals).
  • Lead external relations: social media channels, website updates, infographics, videos, annual reports.
  • Manage media outreach: press briefings, media kits, event support for COPs and ministerial meetings.
  • Support event communications: speeches, talking points, press kits, media coverage.
  • Monitor performance: develop work plans aligned with UNOPS performance cycle, track metrics.

Qualifications and Experience

Education & Essential Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Relations or related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience; or a first level degree (Bachelor’s) with 7+ years experience.
  • Progressive experience in strategic communication, external relations or engagement ideally within international organisations or UN agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in climate, forest, land-use issues (preferably communicates for UN or similar).
  • Proven experience engaging with governments in the Global South and Global North, coordinating multi-stakeholder processes and global events.
  • Fluency in English required; Spanish and French highly desirable.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, work across time zones and manage remote collaboration.

  • Journalism background, strong storytelling and media relations experience.
