Applications for NSFAS are currently open for 2024. Applications for NSFAS grants begin September 28, 2023. Applications for 2023 will now close on January 31, 2024. Who can get NSFAS Funding

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must adhere to four core criteria;

all South African citizens
All SASSA grant winners are eligible for funding
applicants whose gross annual household income does not exceed R350,000
A person with a disability
Total annual household income cannot exceed R600,000. students whose family income does not exceed R122,000 per year and commence studies before 2024.

Documents needed when Applying Nsfas

Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
Smart card: both sides of the card required
Proof of income (where applicable)
Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)

An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA

How To Apply for A Bursary For 2024

When applying for nsfas financial assistance, applicants can use two methods to apply.

Method 1 [When registering online]

Visit www.nsfas.org.za
Click the “myNSFAS” tab
Click “Register”
Check the box to allow NSFAS to verify your details
Then enter your ID number in the field as shown on your South African Identity (ID) document
Enter your full first and last name according to your ID number
Enter your current email address
Confirm your email address
Enter your mobile number
Create a password
Confirm password
Download a copy of your identity
Click Register
An OTP will be sent to the email address and phone number provided (this OTP will expire in 24 hours)
Enter OTP and click Submit
You have now completed your re-registration

Method 2 [When you’re at the NYDA Centre]

Go to a NYDA center/office near you and fill out an application form.

A NYDA center worker will explain the application process and provide you an application form to fill out.

Use a black pen to fill out the application form in CAPITAL letters and sign it in the designated areas.

Submit your application form along with any supporting documentation (as listed below). Ensure that your supporting documents are signed on the front and are no more than three months old.

A receipt card with a bar code will be mailed to you.
